Ostankino Tower is the tallest tower in Europe and was the tallest tower in the world when it was completed in 1967. It serves as a television and radio station and was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Russian revolution. The tower also served as a motivating factor in the creation of other large towers in former Soviet Union countries.
