Upon its completion in 1994, the Oriental Pearl Tower was the tallest building in China and remained so until it was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center in 2007. The tower has eleven spheres and multiple observation decks. Some claim that the design of the building is connected to a well-known Chinese poem.
