Located on the Right Bank of the Seine, the historic Louvre Palace in Paris, France contains the world’s most visited museum- le Musée du Louvre, which displays the world’s most famous painting- the Mona Lisa, as well as 35,000 works of art and over 380,000 objects. This palace originated as a fortress built by Phillip II in the late 12th century and was later expanded, finally becoming a museum in 1793. The iconic glass pyramid was designed by I.M. Pei and completed in 1988 while its counterpart, La Pyramide Inversée (The Inverted Pyramid) was added in 1993.
