The Desert Islands
Around a two and a half hour drive off the western coast of Abu Dhabi lays the Arabian Gulf’s world of splendor: the Desert Islands – a collection of eight islands embracing startling landscapes, adventure and natural beauty.
Desert Islands, or Jozor Al Sahra’a as it is known in Arabic, consist of Sir Bani Yas Island, Dalma Island and six Discovery Islands.
Bani Yas Island:
On Sir Bani Yas Island, the largest of the islands, you can take a look at one of Arabia’s most cherished natural treasures. Embark on a Nature & Wildlife Drive and see more than 15,000 animals protected and conserved in the Wild Life Park. Many water sport activities can also be done, such as kayaking and snorkeling in the beautiful turquoise water of the Gulf.
Dalma Island:
The wealth of knowledge and civilization is found in the land of a 7,500 year old history. Dalma Island is one of the oldest inhabited places in the UAE, with more than 20 archaeological sites worth looking at.
Dalma Island is 250 km from Abu Dhabi city.
