Built in 1969 as a humble theater, this place has become one of the most popular destinations for Russian literature and performance freaks. It is named after Michael Lermontov, a prominent Russian author/playwright. The theater hosts several daily shows in the Russian language.
The foyer of the building contains the Tengri-Umay Art Gallery, which houses a permanent display, is also a venue for presentations on contemporary Kazakh art.
A souvenir shop below the gallery level sells interesting local crafts related to literature and theater.
