Avoid contact with people offering help or assistance as these people often slip out your wallets or their accomplices often slide out valuables from your backpacks and purses.
Avoid roadside gambling! The Three Card Mo nte look-a-like game is rigged and you will lose your bet!
Reial, the Raval and the
Old
Town are renowned for their pickpockets and street hustlers so be street smart in these areas!
Avoid taking cash out of ATMs in crowded areas or you can quite easily lose your ATM card!
Women should be extra careful when travelling alone as purse snatching is very common in the more isolated parts of the city.
If someone comes up to you to clean some mysteriously appearing stain or foreign matter such as bird poop from your jacket or clothes, be careful, they are usually trying to distract you so either they themselves or their accomplices can quietly pick your pockets!
Bag snatching at traffic signals is gradually increasing in the city so keep the doors of your car locked and the windows rolled up!
