Health and Safety
Brisbane is considered to be quiet safe, even by capital city standards. Having said that, always use common sense especially when travelling on public transport at night. Police presence is high and transport is usually patrolled by them and Transit officers at night. CCTV camera are almost everywhere in the CBD and some inner-city areas. The most common problem would be rowdy drunks in the late evenings and early mornings of Fridays and Saturdays. While security in most inner city bars and clubs are tight, suburban clubs have little to no security presence and these should be avoided. In Fortitude Valley where there is a high number of bars and clubs, always stay in a group if you can, never venture off alone and wait only at taxi ranks that have a guard.
Women travelers should have almost no problem in Brisbane; sexual harassment is rare but it does happen. Hitchhiking, female, male and in general, is discouraged.
