Driving Tips
It is preferable to rent a car with a driver rather than drive by yourself. Whilst Cape Town’s road coverage is extensive the signs are often confusing since sometimes they are in Afrikaans and sometimes in English. Moreover, signs are often missing for long stretches of road. Driving oneself would be a hassle but if visitors still want to drive themselves they should make sure they carry an international driving license and the car documents on them at all times without fail. They must also have at least one year experience of driving.
Driving is as in the UK, on the left hand side of the road. Speed limit is 60 kms/hr within Municipal areas and 100 kms/hr on National Roads. Wearing of safety belts is mandatory for drivers and all passengers.
