Residents

The residents of Dubai are an amalgamation of cultures. The city is home to residents of 200 nationalities, all of whom co-exist in total peace and harmony. Though Dubai is an Islamic state, each community is given the freedom to perpetuate their culture and religion in keeping with the Islamic principle of tolerance. More than 100 languages are spoken here. The number of expatriates far out numbers the local Emiratis residing in Dubai. Locals constitute less than 20% of the total population. The expat community comprises of citizens mostly from India (around 36%), Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Phillipines, Far East and other Arab countries. Europeans, Australians and Americans constitute a very small percentage of the population.
