Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting is a special time for all Muslims and is observed with great reverence all over Dubai. Muslims abstain from food and drink during the day and spend their time in prayer and recitation of the Holy Quran. Most restaurants and eating establishments across the city are closed during the day in keeping with the Islamic spirit. In contrast, the evening sees the city come alive with feasting and rejoicing. There is a festive air all around as the city is adorned with lights and decorations. Many shops and trade centers organize promotional campaigns and special offers in keeping with the spirit of giving.
