Gold Souk
No visit to Dubai is complete without a visit to the Gold Souk. Even if you do not intend to buy anything, the unique feel is worth the price of admission (which is free). Here everything that glitters really is gold! Perhaps the most surprising thing is the lack of security. With shop upon shop laden with gold, the expectation is that visitors would be under lots of scrutiny. But that is not the case here, as people in Dubai are as honest as they come. The strict punishment may have something to do with it, too.
Gold is sold by weight according to the rate of the day. There is still room for negotiation with the vendors, though. With so many shops to explore, don’t be in a hurry to buy until you’ve done your share of research. Compare designs and prices to make sure you get something that fits your taste as well as your budget.
Be careful of anyone that approaches you on the street. They are trying to sell you counterfeits. The Gold Souk is a short walk from the Spice Souk abra station and is located in Diera – the old part of the city by the Dubai Creek.
