Dubai has a well organized and efficient bus service managed by the RTA (Road Transport Authority). It is a comfortable and convenient way to get around the city. Each bus is air conditioned, with a section in front reserved for women and families. Routes are displayed in the front and back of the bus on an electronic destination display system. There are also more than 500 air-conditioned bus shelters throughout the city, a number that continues to grow. The fleet includes more than 2,000 buses operating on nearly 200 routes. Still, that is not enough to keep up with demand and during rush hour it can be difficult to find a seat.
The minimum fare for a ride is 2Dhs, dependent on the destination. Buses accept the rechargeable Nol Card, which is also good on the metro and water taxis. It’s definitely the most convenient payment method. Fare can also be paid to the driver upon boarding. Be sure to use exact change.
The main bus terminals are located in Deira near the Gold Souk and at Ghubaiba in Bur Dubai.
