Driving Tips
Visitors are allowed to drive in the UAE with an international driver’s license. As with other countries in the region, driving is on the right side of the road. Modern, well constructed arterials can be a boon for drivers, but certain things have to be kept in mind too. Speed limits are 60-80 km/hr in the city and maximum 100-120 km/hr on highways. All roads are radar-controlled so it is advisable to stick to speed limits if you don’t want to get ticketed. All road signs are in Arabic as well as in English with clear directions and numbered exits.
It’s not all smooth sailing, however. Dubai is a constant work in progress, so be wary of blockades and detours. Traffic jams are commonplace and there is never enough parking. Irrational drivers with peculiar road etiquette can be trying on the nerves too. Be sure you’re mentally prepared for all this!
