altThe currency in Indonesia is the Rupiah (IDR) and is freely convertible. In most major hotels, all major world currencies as well as travelers cheques are accepted. Notes come in 25, 50, 200, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000, 50000 and 100000 Rupiah denominations. Exchange rates are somewhat more favorable at local banks, and better still at money-changing offices. All major international credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) are accepted in most places in Jakarta. Additionally, ATM machines can be found readily around the city.
