From the airport

Kathmandu’s international airport is the Tribhuvan Airport. Getting to Kathmandu is easy, both the international and domestic terminals offer a fixed pre-paid taxi service to Thamel (Rs 500 is the current price). If you book a room in advance, most hotels will pick you up directly from the airport for free.

There are public buses at the airport, about 300m from the main road, but these are only practical if you have little luggage and know exactly where you have to go.
