Lord’s – Home of Cricket
Lord’s is the home ground of the Marylebone Cricket Club – MCC is the world’s most active cricket club, the owner of Lord’s Ground and the guardian of the Laws of the game. Lord’s is the cricket stadium which every cricketer cherishes to play in. Until 1993, MCC also held the responsibility of governing world cricket but this was relinquished to the International Cricket Council which took over global responsibilities for the game while the England Test and County Cricket Board took over governance of the game in England.
When a cricket match is not going on you can take a tour of the sprawling stadium, visit the dressing rooms and even visit the state of the art commentary box and media centre. When cricket fans visit Lord’s they get to feel what it’s like to be not only a spectator at a cricket match, but also a photographer, commentator and a cricket player too.
Highlights of the tour include seeing the Ashes Urn, Pavilion Long Room, Players’ Dressing Rooms & the media centre.
The Lord’s Museum boasts bats, balls and kit donated by great players including Mahela Jayawardene, Glenn McGrath, Rahul Dravid, Paul Collingwood and Shane Warne – as well as from past greats such as Victor Trumper, Jack Hobbs and Don Bradman. The Ashes Urn is also kept at the Lord’s Museum.
