Marks and Spencer started off in Leeds as a penny store – everything in the store was priced 1p – in 1884 by Michael Marks, an immigrant from Belarus. M & S, as it is colloquially known, now has over 700 stores, spread over 30 countries. The stores have an extensive men’s and womenswear collection. Many stores also have furniture and foodstuff among other things. If good quality, affordable clothing is what you are looking for, then this is where you should head.
There are numerous M&S stores in London but the main flagship store is near Marble Arch on 458 Oxford Street.
