La Brea Tar Pits & Page Museum
La Brea Tar Pits is a famous group of tar pits, where the hot tar has been oozing out from the Earth for more than 40,000 years. Different species of animals from birds to mammals to fish have gotten stuck in the sludge and their remains have been preserved in it for many years. Scientists in 1906 began to remove some of these ‘remains’ from the pits and they are now kept in the adjacent Page Museum. A large collection of skeletons and Ice Age plants can be found at the museum.
