Health and Safety
Like any other cosmopolitan city, Madrid has its own share of crimes. So to ensure safety at all costs, it is a good idea to avoid looking like a tourist. Strangers often approach the tourist to help and eventually end up robbing them. Carrying too much cash or important documents is a definite no. Tourist areas including Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and metro stations are more prone to theft.
While exiting from the airport, ensure that all the valuables are kept in inside pockets and out of easy reach of thieves. Hail only authorized state owned taxis that are white with a red diagonal band on the front doors.
For health safety, drinking tap water is not an issue; however pollution caused by cars may offend a traveler coming from the country side or a less polluted place
