Isdhoo

This is the site where Buddhist remains from the Maldives’ pre-Islamic past have been impressively excavated. Isdhoo or Isd? is one of the inhabited islands of Haddhunmathi Atoll, Laamu. Located on this island are important ruins from the historical Maldivian Buddhist era. These ruins include one of the largest stupas (a structure with Buddhist relics) found in Maldives to date. L?m?f?nu, which are ancient royal edicts written on copper plates, are also found here. The l?m?f?nu were written in the curly Ev?la form of the Divehi script or old Maldive alphabet. These are very important documents as they bear the History of the Maldives.
