This is an extremely solemn event contrary to what is suggested by its name. Russian soldiers and others killed during World War II are remembered on this day. War memorials are held all over the city with youngsters bearing flowers as a mark of respect. War veterans dressed in their uniforms also meet up telling tales about the battles they were a part of. The fireworks display at night is spectacular.
