Maharashtra Day commemorates the attainment of statehood of Maharashtra on I May 1960. The state government organizes the main function in Mumbai which is held at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai.
A ceremonial parade is part of the celebrations comprising members of the State Reserve Police Force, Brihanmumbai Commando Force, Home Guards, Civil Defense, Fire Brigade and City Police. The Governor of the state takes the salute at the ceremonial parade.
