When to go

This is the perfect place for year round travel. Nairobi is at 5,449 feet or 1,661 meters above sea level. It has a very pleasant and moderate climate with temperatures never reaching too high or too low. Evenings can get pleasantly cool due to the altitude, in the winter months of June and July but it never really goes down too much below 10 °C.

Even in the so called summer months of December through to March when the days are sunny and warm, the temperature never really goes up beyond the mid 20’s C.
The rainy season is April to June and October to mid December. But it is never really so bad that one cannot enjoy the wonders in and around Nairobi even in the rain. In fact, this is the time that prices are discounted for Safaris tours and hotels. The animals are still as many though bird watchers may be disappointed and would prefer the drier months of January and February for best sighting. The wildebeest migration annually is usually between June and September and this is a good time to be in the area.
Up to 1.4 million wildebeest and zebra crowd onto the Maasai-Mara    plains during this time each year, in what is arguably the world’s greatest wildlife spectacle.

The wettest month is April and the driest July.
In the busy seasons of December to February and July to August when most schools internationally have holidays, it is best to make all reservations in advance.
