Driving is on the left hand side. The International Driving License is valid for use but has to be endorsed by the Road Transport Office in Nairobi if one plans to self drive a car there.

It is best to be cautious and aware. There are incidents of car jacking and crime. It is best not to drive out at night, especially if the roads are unfamiliar. Parking should be in designated areas only and specially not in isolated spots. Do not stop to assist anyone in an accident as that is a ploy used very often by criminals. Even if someone seems to be hurting the cars deliberately do not roll down the window or try and confront them. Keep safe distance and enough distance to maneuver the car. If in a situation where one is being carjacked do not resist but speak clearly and cooperate as normally carjackers are armed.
