The birthday of the Hindu mythical god, Lord Krishna, is celebrated with fervor and devotion all over the city. Temples dedicated to this god are decorated and processions taken out in the streets. Kirtans and Bhajans (devotional songs) are sung, sermons are delivered and Krishna is worshipped in his infant form. Plenty of sweets are made, especially laddu and kheer. In addition, plenty of milk products especially butter, which was Krishna’s favorite childhood food, are given in offerings. A wide variety of fruits are also offered.
