Rome, the capital of Italy, is over 2,700 years old and steeped in history. It is also the centre of the Catholic Church. Vatican City is also located here, home to the Pope; it is the smallest independent state in the world. A major tourist attraction is the Sistine Chapel, which was painted by Michelangelo in 1508.

There are refreshing fountain-filled piazzas and a multitude of cafes and restaurants where one can relax and soak in the essence of Rome.
