ImageIf you have been residing in Singapore for the last six months and possess an international driving license you are legitimately eligible to drive in the country with full liberty. You must make sure that you are familiar with the fundamental rules of driving as they may not be identical to what are implemented in your native land.

Drivers are advised to drive on the left side of the road with a maximum speed of 50km/h on main streets and 70 to 80 km/h on highways. As in many countries, drinking while driving or talking on the cell phone are offences liable to punishment in Singapore also. People on the driving seat are recommended to wear a seat belt while driving and the usage of the child seat is also mandatory. Headlights are suggested to be switched on from 7 pm to 7am. In case of an inconsequential accident the issue can be resolved without any police intrusion. However if the accident belongs to the major category or involves any kind of casualty or injury you should immediately contact 995 for police involvement. In case of insurance claim the report needs to be registered at the police station within a span of 24 hours of the incident.

Vehicle insurance can easily be obtained in Singapore which will include any harm that has occurred to the vehicle due to fire, accident or stealing. Purchase of personal accident cover is allowed which is also used in compensating the medical expenditure of anyone who has incurred any injury in the accident.
