Uzbeks are very friendly and hospitable people who welcome tourists with open arms. Uzbeks make up 80% of the total population of Uzbekistan; Russians make up 5.5%, Tajiks 5%, Kazakhs 3%, Karakalpak 2.5%, Tatar 1.5% and other nationalities make up 2.5%.
74.3% of the population speaks Uzbek while 14.2% speak Russian. 88% are Sunni Muslims, 9% are Eastern Orthodox and the rest are different religions.
