Tashkent Today
Tashkent today is a city showcasing the perfect blend of Islamic and Western/Soviet culture. Having a population of approximately 2 million, it has a large ethnic Russian minority. Located in one of the most developed places in Uzbekistan, the city of Tashkent is the main economic and cultural center of Central Asia. It has some beautiful architectural structures which are sights not to be missed by tourists. With its rich heritage it is no wonder that this city has lots of museums, buildings and monuments from the Soviet era.
The city’s industry is involved with manufacturing textile and agricultural machinery, as well as producing cotton textiles.
Tashkent is well known for its fountains, parks and tree lined streets.
