The Bundesbus (federal bus) network connects all major parts of the city, and is very convenient for small road trips. During night hours (0030 to 0530 hrs), public transport service is provided by the Nightline buses operating on all the main routes, usually after every half hour.
Traveling by bus, as by any other public transport system in Vienna, requires validated tickets. Tickets are available for sale at ticket machines, bus stops, or railway/subway stations. Tobacconists also sell tickets. They can also be purchased on board the bus or tram at an increased rate of two Euros per ticket.
Tickets must be validated before boarding. Tickets can be validated by stamping them at special machines at the entrance of bus, tram, or underground stations. Tickets that have been bought directly from the tram or bus driver are validated in advance, and do not need to be stamped again.
Tickets are not checked when you enter a station or board a bus or tram. However, there are regular ticket inspections on all routes.
