Zurich in a Day

altStart your day at Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s answer to the Champs Elysees.  This is one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world, but even if you’re on a budget, the window shopping is a sight to behold.  When you’re finished here, walk a few blocks to Fraumunster.  This is one of Zurich’s signature landmarks.  It shouldn’t take more than a half hour to explore this wonderful old church.  Stop for lunch at Swiss Chuchi.  Be sure to try their famous fondue, which comes at a surprisingly reasonable cost.

Afterwards cross the River Limmat into Niederdorf and check out Fraumunster’s sister church, Grossmunster.  The interior is the paragon of Protestant simplicity, but is still quite beautiful.  Be sure to climb the tower to get one of the best views of Zurich.  Next head to Kunsthaus, the city’s finest art museum.  The collection is filled with European masters, from the Renaissance up through the the twentieth century.    See works by Vincent Van Gogh, Edward Munch, and Salvador Dali, among many others.

Grab dinner at one of Niederdorf’s many restaurants.  Afterwards unwind by taking a stroll along the River Limmat or Lake Zurich.  If you’re up for it, enjoy Niederdorf’s nightlife.  This is Zurich’s hottest nightspot, filled with clubs, bars, and even street entertainers.
