Abu Dhabi Airport Passenger Traffic Up 7.5%

Abu Dhabi International Airport announced that passenger traffic increased 7.5 percent during the first three quarters of this year compared to the same period last year. Passenger numbers also increased 6.4 percent in the third quarter of this year, and Abu Dhabi Airports Company reported a 6.8 percent passenger increase in September. Acting Chief Executive of ADAC, John Stent said “Abu Dhabi International Airport has maintained consistent traffic growth throughout the global downturn”. He attributed the sustained growth to the robust network, frequency expansion of Etihad Airways, and increase in the number of airline operators starting operations to and from Abu Dhabi. Mr. Stent said the airport has already welcomed seven new carriers in 2009, and Malaysia Air Asia X will be the eighth new carrier when it begins operations later this month.
