Abu Dhabi’s Qasr Al Hosn Festival 2015
Published by Irhal
The annual Qasr Al Hosn Festival celebrates the UAE’s heritage through a rich and cultural program. This year, the program is inspired by two themes: Abu Dhabi’s traditional heritage represented by the iconic Qasr Al Hosn Fort and its surrounding areas, and the importance of modern heritage showcased in the Cultural Foundation Building through a variety of activities. Qasr Al Hosn (meaning palace fort) is the oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. It was constructed in 1761 as a watchtower to defend the only freshwater well in Abu Dhabi. It was expanded into a small fort a few years later and became the residence of the ruling Sheikh at the time. This landmark holds a strong historical significance to the people of UAE.
The Qasr Al Hosn Festival presents the history of Qasr Al Hosn to its visitors, showcased through a series of programs including Qasr Al Hosn Fort tours, Qasr Al Hosn Exhibition, traditional Emirati music and performances, poetry, children’s activities, family workshops, demonstrations and enchanting shows at the Festival Stage.
One of the many venues worth checking out in the area that is involved in this cultural festival is 'Gahwa', an Emirati cafe. Visitors are provided with the opportunity to experience the coffee-drinking tradition that is deeply rooted in the UAE heritage, signifying hospitality, generosity and community. Visit 'Gahwa' to conclude - or begin - your traditional Emirati experience in Abu Dhabi.
The Qasr Al Hosn Festival runs for 11 days, from the 11th of February until the 21st of February.
