Be a part of Bali’s annual Kite Festival

The festival will feature kites in huge sizes, usually up to 4 meters wide and 10 meters long. The kites will feature unique traditional shapes and design such as the Bebean (Fish), Janggan (Birds) and Pecukan (Leaves). The Bebeans are the largest in size; the Janggans have tails that can reach to hundreds of meters; and the Pecukans are the easiest to fly since they are the most stable in design. Dominated by the colors red, white, and black, these kites will truly offer their own unique appeal as they glide up and down over the rice fields.

The festival will be participated by teams representing villages around Denpasar, the capital city of Bali Province. The team who performs the best moves and flies the kite the longest will emerge as champion. The festival is not just about competing, however, as it also holds religious and spiritual values. The kites flown up the sky are regarded as a way to deliver prayers to the gods in the hope of an abundant harvest. As the kites dance in the sky, they will be accompanied by the soothing sounds of Balinese traditional music.

Padang Galak is one of the tourist regions around Sanur Beach which offers recreational facilities including an exquisite fish pond. There is also an open stage used for traditional and contemporary art performances.
