Dubai Airport Traffic Up 12.6%

Dubai International Airport recorded a 12.6% increase in passenger numbers in July, the highest monthly growth rate since May 2008 (13.8%). Passenger traffic increased 10.3% in June so this is the second consecutive month of double digit increases. Cargo transport through DIA continues to register slow growth at 1.9% in July, handling 160,289 tons of freight compared to 157,253 tons in July 2008. CEO of DIA, Paul Griffiths, said “The Middle East continues to demonstrate vibrant growth during the global economic downturn and Dubai International Airport is at the epicenter of that growth.” He attributed the double digit increases in passenger growth directly to “a boost in passenger numbers from Emirates and other long-haul network carriers.”
