Halloween spreads in the Middle East

"Soul cakes" were distributed to the poor in medieval Europe to pray for the souls of the dead - a tradition that has evolved into the trick-or-treat custom where children knock on doors asking for sweets and chocolates. Dead souls were believed to be in limbo before going to heaven or hell and some of these souls would seek revenge from people who had oppressed them in their life - starting the custom of wearing masks on Halloween to protect themselves from revenge seeking souls!

Anyone know how pumpkins got involved with Halloween? Here is the low down: carved pumpkins with candles lit in them were meant to scare ghosts and floating souls from visiting your home during Halloween!
