The Kohola (humpback whales) range between 40-52 feet in length and weigh up to 45 tons. Despite that, these whales are quite the graceful acrobats. Propelling up to 40 percent of its body out of the water and landing on its side with a spectacular splash is a unique sight to see. If you’re out swimming in the ocean it is quite likely that you would hear the haunting melodies of a whale song, which can be heard underwater up to twelve miles away from the actual whale.
Take a boat tour for closer views, or keep a pair of binoculars ready while on land, because it’s quite popular to spot a Kohola’s breach or spout out in the waters.
