Longest glass bridge on Earth opens

The ’Brave Men’s Bridge’, recently opened in the Hunan province of China, is the longest permanent glass bridge in the world. The 984 foot skywalk has a nerve-wrecking 180 meter drop and is constructed with clear glass giving visitors a breathtaking view below.

Despite its appearance, its creators say the bridge (known as Haohan Qaio in Chinese), in the Shiniuzhai National Geological Park is perfectly safe. Each of the glass panes is 24 millimeters thick and 25 times stronger than normal glass.

"The bridge we built will stand firm even if tourists are jumping on it," a worker who constructed the bridge told the state-owned China News Service.

"The steel frame used to support and encase the glass bridge is also very strong and densely built, so even if a glass is broken, travelers won't fall through."

Cities in the US and Canada are also building similar glass skywalks but the Haohan Qaio will remain as the longest.
