Marriott to open first hotel in Iceland

Marriott to open first hotel in Iceland

The 250-room hotel will be located on the harbor waterfront in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, immediately adjacent to Harpa, the city’s award winning concert and conference hall.

Speaking at a signing ceremony in Reykjavik, Sandeep Walia, area vice president for Marriott International, Inc. in Europe, remarked, “Iceland is emerging as one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world for global travelers and we couldn’t be more excited to introduce our EDITION brand to this vibrant country.”

The project will be financed by Carpenter and a major Icelandic bank plus local equity investors. The project is the result of several years of intensive urban planning lead by the city of Reykjavik.

Now open in New York, London, Miami and Istanbul, EDITION Hotels has marked the next chapter in the lifestyle hotel story. Future hotels are planned for Abu Dhabi (2016), Sanya, China (2016), Bangkok (2016), Times Square (2018), West Hollywood (2018), Reykjavik, Iceland (2018), Wuhan, China (2019), and Bali, Indonesia (2019).
