Director of Business Development at the Monarch said the hotel was reluctant to lower rates in an attempt to attract guests away from competitors. Arshad Hussain explained “In a recession it’s a very easy thing to keep discounting rates. Very soon they’ll be selling at cost price or below your break even point.” Hussain said Monarch has also signed onto Facebook and it has been effective. The ultra luxury Monarch Suite, which hosted Paris Hilton this month, will also be available for bid. The Monarch Suite usually carries a price tag of AED49,000 a night.
