Rak Airways Remains Open

The new CEO of the troubled airline RAK Airways said they “are in no way closing”. Kristian Kirchheiner, who joined the airline on 18 May 2009, said they will resume operating charter flights after halting scheduled services late in 2008. While scheduled commercial services are not currently operation RAK is still offering charter flights on a wet lease basis to Hewa Bora Airlines, which is located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This “wet lease” operation means that one airline provides another a plane, crew, maintenance, and insurance.
