So they got together and illustrated a map of the surfing world on their terms. They quickly discovered that they were helping other avid surf fans discover new places for surfing.

As a result, the "art of mapmaking" began to have more meaning—it actively captured the imagination and their desire to explore the lives and worlds of others.

Now, with help from Kickstarter, the folks at Awesome Maps are encouraging everyone to contribute ideas to create other 'bucketlistmaps', regarding anything great on Planet Earth—think beautiful, artfully carefully illustrated maps of the "must sees and dos", before we all kick the bucket.
