This year's event is set in turbulent times when the Euro is declining in value and global terrorist threats are making travelers hesitate to travel. But at the same time, travel technology is changing the way people travel.
Other dramatic changes are also affecting travel. Airbnb is offering the convenience and lower cost of staying in homes rather than hotels, and social media is inspiring travelers to decide where to go while car rental services are being impacted by the growth of Uber and Lyft.
The complete universe of the travel industry will be on display in Berlin. ITB Berlin is expecting over Euro 6.5 billion worth of business will be done at the show. According to Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH: “ITB Berlin is a strong marketplace and provides the international travel industry with an ideal platform for negotiating and doing business."
