16 held over fake passports: Bahrain Ministry

May 18 - The Bahrain Interior Ministry confirmed that 16 people were detained for allegedly trying to enter Bahrain using fake passports. Two Iranians were held on May 8 for trying to enter Bahrain with forged UK passports, and a day later 12 Chinese and 2 Singaporeans were also detained for trying to enter Bahrain International Airport with fake passports. Public Prosecution, British, Chinese, Singaporean, and Iranian authorities have launched an investigation. The ministry’s under-secretary brigadier said “While the Iranians claim they were trying to get to the UK via Bahrain, the Chinese and Singaporeans claimed they were looking for employment here.” Bin Daina said the Asians claimed to have given a large amount of money to agents who had promised to get them jobs here.
