"A passenger ship with 2,000 tourists makes Bahrain richer by [an average of] Dh1 million [$274,000]. With more than 70 ships docking in Bahrain in the cruise season from October to May, this has translated to a substantial figure," said Heba Abdulaziz, Chief Executive of Bahrain's Ministry of Culture and Information's marketing and tourism promotion project.
Bahrain has had, till recently, a limited number of itineraries with regard to cruises but it is now looking to expand that given that the market for the same has grown.
