The title of 'World's Tallest Building' is constantly changing hands.
China's Broad Sustainable Construction (BSC) is set to start constructing a 2,750-foot (838m), 220-story high Sky City in Changsha, China. It is slated for completion at the end of this year.
The building won't be built up in the traditional way. Its components have been mass-produced in factories years ahead and will be brought together in a mammoth assembly of material—which explains why the building can be completed so quickly.
19,000 workers have been prefabricating the parts, over a total period of four months. The assembly time will take three-months on the building's actual site.
According to BSC, Sky City will be a pioneering example of a mega complex of apartment, recreational facilities and schools and will serve to bring down per capita use of land and commuting needs. This may be the next solution for a burgeoning population, not just in China, but also the world.
As a BSC spokesperson mentioned, "Urbanization cannot be materialized at the cost of land and environmental pollution." Overall the building will be five times more energy efficient as compared to conventionally built buildings.
Most impressively, the Sky City will be built up to withstand earthquakes of up to 9.0 magnitude on the richter scale, thereby affirming its safety as a structure.
Is the Sky City history in the making?
