The world's largest hotel group has been created with the merger of Starwood and Marriott. Although Marriott had offered to buy out Starwood earlier, the Chinese Anbang consortium, owners of the Waldorf Astoria in New York, offered a better deal to Starwood prompting Marriott to make a counter offer that has now been accepted by Starwood shareholders.
