Dubai Hotel Occupancy Rate Up 15pc

Dubai hotels registered a 15 percent increase in occupancy rate in February, the first increase since the global economic downturn began impacting its tourism sector. The latest data from STR Global shows the region had increases in occupancy rates, average daily rates (ADR), and revenue per available room (RevPAR). Elizabeth Randall, managing director of STR Global said: “The Middle East/Africa region reported its first positive month of RevPAR growth since the second half of 2008 – resulting in only a .8 percent RevPAR decline for the first two months of this year, which is a marked improvement from a 10 percent RevPAR decline in the 4th quarter 2009.”
However, Abu Dhabi had decreases for the second consecutive month. The emirate had the biggest declines in the region in February for all three metrics: occupancy rate, ADR, and RevPAR. Abu Dhabi’s hotel occupancy rates dropped 31.2 percent to 58.9 percent, ADR fell 39.9 percent to $233.03, and RevPAR plummeted 58.7 percent to $137.28.
