While the city cannot claim to be the first in the world to celebrate the new year - that title goes to New Zealand. The world's highest "ball drop" has been claimed by Bangkok. Dropping from the top of Lebua Hotel in Silom Road, the "ball drop" took place from a height of 266 meters - compared to a lowly 145 meters for the New York Times Square "ball drop."
Dubai's spectacular fireworks will spread from the Atlantis on the Palm Island across to Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa. With 400 locations lighting up the night sky, the fireworks is being billed as an event that will make people feel that the sun is rising from the West! Pictures and updates will shortly be uploaded here. Stay tuned.
