As part of The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign's Global Landmark Illuminations Initiative, driven by Estée Lauder and Philips, the hotels will be illuminated pink as symbols of hope and empowerment and to mark the start of this important awareness month.
The initiative marks a dozen years of casting a bright light on a disease that, if localized and detected early, is 90 per cent curable. Iconic landmarks worldwide shine pink to remind women and men everywhere of the importance of annual mammograms for those 40 years or older, and the benefits of early detection in preventing breast cancer.
The exterior façade of InterContinental and Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City will be illuminated pink for the first and last week of October using their energy-saving Philips dynamic architectural LED lighting solutions.
Tom Lord, acting general manager at InterContinental Hotels Group Dubai Festival City, said: "Last summer we successfully launched a major energy-saving initiative, together with Philips, by replacing all our exterior facade lights with energy-saving LED lights. This fantastic global initiative is a great opportunity for us to use our lights to be part of something special and to support such a worthwhile cause and the community we live in.
"Our iconic properties are key features of the Dubai skyline and it is fantastic to see them illuminated in such a dramatic manner and really make an impact to raise awareness of this inspiring campaign."
Paolo Cervini, general manager of Philips Lighting Middle East & Turkey said: "During the breast cancer awareness month, Philips, in partnership with Estee Lauder and InterContinental and Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City, will be using the power of light to raise public awareness on early detection of breast cancer, which can save lives. Philips Lighting has always been committed to creating innovative solutions that enhance the life and well-being of people, especially with its current energy-saving portfolio."
InterContinental and Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City will be illuminated pink from 1st - 7th October and 25th - 31st October 2011.
